The motorized forklift models come complete with a motorized drive and in many cases have a seat or protected cab in their design to keep the operator comfortable and safe. Fork trucks are a different kind that are motorized and consist of features like for instance cabs and backup alarms. So as to prevent the machinery from tipping over, several forklifts are counterbalanced. Other kinds of forklifts comprise safety rails, a rotating element such as a turntable or different types of hand rails.
When choosing forklifts, important specifications to take into consideration comprise lift capacity and stroke. Stroke is defined as the difference between the fully-lowered and the fully-raised lift positions. Lift capacity is the supportable, maximum load or forcforce or load. Other specifications for forklifts include their tire and fuel type.
Different fuel options for forklifts include: LP or liquid propane, CNG or compressed natural gas, diesel fuel, propane, natural gas and gasoline. There are 2 major kinds of tires for operating forklifts and fork trucks: solid and pneumatic. Cushion or solid tires require less maintenance than pneumatic tires and do not puncture. The solid or cushion tires do provide less shock absorption in general. Pneumatic or air-inflated tires on the other hand provide great load-cushioning and drive traction.
There are 7 classes of forklifts. The first class of forklifts, Class I, is either stand-up or seated 3 wheeled units that are electric-motor rider trucks. Normally, rider units could have either cushion or pneumatic wheels and are counterbalanced. Class II forklifts are electric motor units that are used for order picking or stock applications in narrow aisle environments. These models offer extra swing mast or reach functions.
Class III forklifts are either walk-behind or standing-rider operated electric-motor trucks. High lift models and automated pallet lift trucks are normally counterbalanced units. Class IV forklifts have seated controls and cabs. These types of forklifts are rider fork trucks with internal combustion or IC engines. Furthermore, this class has solid or cushion tires.
Rider fork Trucks are incorporated in Class V. These machinery will have seated controls and cabs, pneumatic tires and internal combustion or IC engines. Similar to Class IV forklifts, they are normally counterbalanced. Class VI forklifts are tow tractor lifts which are designed for a sit-down rider. This class is supplied with electric or internal combustion or IC engines.
Lastly, Class VII forklifts are the perfect option for use on rough terrain areas. They are a common feature in construction, logging and agricultural applications. Class VII forklifts consist of all burden carriers and personnel carriers.
Nissan has taken the initiative to make the first pantograph style reach truck within the industry. This was due to the increased requirement for high performing narrow aisle reach trucks. Introducing the new SRX Platinum Series of reach trucks has become part of the North American market. The launch within Australia is scheduled to follow very soon.
The SRX Platinum Series is available in 3 capacities. These load capacities vary from 1360 kilograms to 2000. The system was made due to intensive operator contribution on the design. These factors played a big roll to ensure its acceptance into the hugely competitive reach truck market in the US. The following excellent operator comfort and safety features have resulted for the Nissan trucks.
Due to a low step height, exit and entry is simplified. The side stance design makes forward and reverse driving a comfortable experience for the operator. The unit is complete with a gently sloped floorboard that is in place to sit over 4 vibration isolators. This particular design offers a relaxed driving position for the operator throughout a standing shift. In addition, the SRX Platinum Series provides a cushioned floor mat to offer a more enjoyable and smoother ride.
