Forklift Parts in More Detail
A forklift is made of thousands of parts. The main parts which make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a forklift has a range of attachments. All the parts that make up a lift truck are all essential since they work together to make the functions of the equipment possible. The next paragraphs describe some of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the forklifts metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are using the machinery. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would injure the operator or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on various units.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move up and downwards. The interlocking rails could either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. In order to allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are various attachments that could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Furthermore, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These various kinds of attachments are helpful for transporting various kinds of loads.
